What exactly do you transfer over?
We transfer every essential piece of product data, from titles, descriptions, SKUs, pricing, and inventory levels to product variants, options, images, brand details, and SEO metadata. We also convert your category hierarchy into Shopify product tags and programmatically set up all necessary URL redirects to preserve your SEO.
Will our SEO or traffic drop when we switch?
We take extensive measures to preserve your SEO. We programmatically generate and set up 1:1 product URL redirects, mapping each BigCommerce URL to its new Shopify URL, and preserve all SEO metadata (titles, descriptions, alt text). Some fluctuation is normal during any migration, but proper 301 mapping ensures search engines and visitors are seamlessly directed to new pages with zero SEO loss, and rankings typically settle quickly.
How long does the migration take?
Most migrations complete in 3–6 weeks. Small stores typically take 2–3 weeks, medium stores 3–5 weeks, and complex or enterprise stores 6–10+ weeks depending on integrations and customizations. Our process includes discovery, data audit, theme build, redirects/QA, launch, and post-launch support.
Do you build a new Shopify theme or just migrate the data?
We do both! In addition to migrating all your products, categories, pages, and customers, we create a custom, fast, responsive Shopify theme tailored to your brand. We build your new theme for beauty and conversions, with dedicated assistance and unlimited revisions throughout the process.
Can you migrate customer passwords and order history?
We migrate customer profiles with key relationships for marketing. However, passwords cannot be migrated due to encryption—customers will need to reset passwords using standard Shopify account recovery. We can also work with you on order data depending on your needs and platform capabilities.
What if I need something custom?
We can accommodate custom requests, such as specific data types or use-cases. We'll work with you to meet your specific needs.
How do you handle nested BigCommerce categories?
We create parent collections for your top-level BigCommerce categories, while nested categories are added as product tags (using a full hierarchy flattening). This approach avoids the headaches of deeply nested categories and improves the browsing experience for your customers.
How do you handle products with more than 3 options?
If a product has more than 3 options, we mark it for manual review. We then set up that product using an advanced product options plugin so that even complex products are handled correctly without any data loss.
Do you import inactive BigCommerce products?
By default, no. We only transfer active products from your BigCommerce store.
How do you ensure my SEO is preserved during the migration?
We programmatically generate and set up product URL redirects, mapping each BigCommerce product’s original URL to its new Shopify URL. This guarantees that search engines and visitors are seamlessly directed to your new product pages without any loss in SEO ranking.
What happens to my product images?
Every product image is transferred, including variant-specific images and additional product images, complete with image order and alternative text, so your product visuals remain intact and effective.
